LED Street Lighting: How can Vision Quest Lighting led by Larry Liberman finance LED street lighting as a new line of business? MBA students Yu-Hui Chiu, Sha Li, and Peng Xiao analyzed the leasing versus bond financing in government buying LED street lights. Senior consultants were Marvin Broitman and Gerrit Wolf. Value is better lighting and safety on roads at lower costs.

Fund Raising Plan for East End Arts: Director Patricia Sullivan wanted increased Joint venture relationships with the LI business community. MBA Yann-Ru Ho, Trevor Huang, and Chien Chih Liao analyzed the websites of the top 100 firms on Long Island for their support of Non-Profits. The top 20 were proposed as targets of opportunity for joint ventures like the Jazz in the Winter program.

Project SERV Fund Raising Plan: This new nonprofit provides education and out reach about shell fish and their habitat around LI. Founders Paul Mathews and Peter Danforth wanted a fund raising plan. MBAS Lauren Cavalieri, Justin Dzakonski, and Kristen Heide researched similar Non-Profits and found many LI events to pro-mote SERV, and sources of funding for SERV from grants from state and federal sources, and from foundations.

Venture Capital on Long Island: Ed Moltzen from CRN a technology magazine wanted to know why venture capital is small on LI and has not grown. MBAs Chloe Jones, Qi Wu, and Chihyang Yu compared venture capital expenditures across the country, and interview-ed venture capitalists. LI is one the top places for research spending through BNL, SBU and CSH and the production of patents, but one of the lowest in technology entrepreneurs.
