Stony Brook College of Business Innovation Center News
This past Friday, I attended the official opening reception for the Innovation Center at Stony Brook University.

Gerrit Wolf, an industrial and organizational psychologist who has focused on entrepreneurship, is currently running this wonderful center at the university. He has extensive consulting experience with startups and growing firms, providing advice on business planning, marketing and organizational development. Through the Innovation Center, Wolf has truly created a great place for entrepreneurs to work, obtain guidance from mentors and connect with like-minded entrepreneurs, fulfilling the center’s mission to grow high-tech businesses on Long Island that have global impact.

I am currently working with Dr. Wolf to attract successful alumni, local entrepreneurs, Stony Brook students, faculty and other mentors to get involved with the center through their own entrepreneurial ventures or by mentoring others. To do that, like any other successful venture in the business world, it’s imperative to innovate.

Innovation is about imagining and competing in new ways – thinking ahead.

In this day in age, innovation is very important for the success of a company. If a company is not willing to innovate and try new things in technology, they will eventually be left behind, relegated to second-class citizen status, before eventually ceasing to exist entirely.

Innovation also leads to firms creating new products, improving upon existing goods and services. It also deals with the process; innovating the productivity process is very important for a company to succeed in today’s economy. Today, companies require an innovative process that can help them drive down their costs, as well as improve their productivity in the marketplace.

I look forward to working with Dr. Wolf on thinking of new innovative ways to grow this new center at Stony Brook University.
