Dr. Samuel T. Hunter, a prominent scholar in leadership and innovation, visited the Stony Brook College of Business

On Friday, May 1, Dr. Samuel T. Hunter visited the College of Business for the Organizations, Groups, and Management seminar. Dr. Hunter is an Associate Professor of Industrial-Organizational Psychology at Penn State University and is a prolific scholar in leadership and innovation. Dr. Hunter has published over 55 articles and book chapters, edited a book on multilevel issues in innovation, and received over 2.3 million dollars in grant funding. His consulting clients and partners include NATO, Oakley, Lockheed Martin, Epic Games, Google, and DDI consulting.

Richard Chan, Assistant professor in College of Business and the Innovation Center reported initial results on how investors at Kickstarter make investment decisions. He reported on a data set of 335 Kickstarter projects and their innovativeness as a function of characteristics of the entrepreneur's presentation and the investors. MBAs Help Winners of Entrepreneur Challenge

MBAs helped with a business plan for grad student Kasia Sawicka, who won first place, and engineering student Plinio Guzman, who won second place in the campus business plan contest Entrepreneur Challenge. Held Thursday March 26 ten student startups presented to a panel of experts. Winners entered the LI contest on April 2.

Innovation Lab to Move to Harriman Cafe

Dean Manny London announced that the Innovation Lab will move to the the space that had been the Harriman Cafe off the lobby on the first floor. While the old space in a physics classroom on the second floor of Harriman captured the history of innovation, the new space will show off the lab to the public because of the glass wall facing on the quad. Students will be able to see innovation The transition will take place over the summer.

Study Entrepreneurship and Business in Rome

From July 4 to July 30 undergraduate students can study Entrepreneurship across Countries and International Business in Rome. These courses comprise half the specialization in International Business for Business major and count ward the Entrepreneurship Minor. .Applications have been extended to April 30. Apply at

PreSeed Boot Camp Aids SBU Inventors

Six inventors from SBU science faculty and staff marched through a two day PreSeed Boot Camp on March 6 and 12. The kickoff was held at the Garden City Hotel the evening of March 4 followed by the Tech Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame. The two day Boot camp was held at the SBDC on Campus. Three of the inventions were in biomedical field and three in alternative energy.

Innovation Lab Opens

The Innovation Lab, located in 210 Harriman Hall, is a maker space for innovative students who want to design a new product. Benches, equipment, and 3D printers are for making models, and computers and software for designing products or apps for smart phones.
